Douglas Judson maintains a general civil litigation practice. He acts on behalf of individuals, corporations, not-for-profits, First Nation entities, municipalities, and elected officials. He has appeared before all levels of court in Ontario, as well as courts in other provinces and the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario.

Doug is experienced in estate litigation, tort claims (including claims of negligence, defamation, and anti-SLAPP), constitutional and Charter litigation, human rights and discrimination claims, municipal conflict of interest and code of conduct matters, and employment matters.

Westover Estate v. Jolicouer et al

2022 ONSC 4550, aff’d 2024 ONCA 81 | The defendants obtained escalated, personal costs following the trial of an action brought against them by an estate trustee for her own personal benefit after she failed to prove allegations of fraud.

Crichton et al v. Webster

2025 ONSC 1162 | This is a successful summary judgment motion for the plaintiffs – Thunder Bay drag performers who were libeled as pedophiles on social media.

Gibson v. Cunningham

2025 ONSC 5504 | The defendant law student was successful having a defamation action brought against her by a senior police officer dismissed as a SLAPP.

CATIE et al v. Blackwell

2025 ONSC 4678 | This default judgment on behalf of the plaintiff staff and directors of an HIV/AIDS organization resulted in one of the highest defamation awards in Ontario.

Air Passenger Rights v. Attorney General of Canada

2026 ONSC 3983 | This application resulted in the reading down of a section of the Canada Transportation Act for infringing the Charter’s section 2(b) right to freedom of expression by violating the open court principle.

Stuht v. Johann Timber Company Inc. et al

2025 ONSC 5265 | The defendant employee was successful striking the claim against him on the basis that it failed to disclose sufficient particulars as compared to his corporate employer.

Mawakeesick v. Kaoma et al

2022 ONSC 5470 | The plaintiff directors obtained an oppression remedy against the defendant who had falsified their signature to obtain and then misappropriate loan financing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Harrison v. York University et al

2023 HRTO 19 | The respondents were successful having the application dismissed by the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario as an abuse of process after the applicant refused to comply with procedural orders.

Spellman v. Spellman

2025 ONSC 1187 | The plaintiff was successful obtaining orders redistributing her brother’s inheritance from their late mother’s estate after the court found that the brother had stolen their father’s estate assets.
