Statement from Coun. Douglas Judson
Today Fort Frances councillor Douglas W. Judson issued the following statement:
“Many of us ran for council on a commitment to work towards a resolution of the uncertainty surrounding the Point Park lands and to improve our relationship with neighbouring First Nations. We are reaching a milestone in that effort.
“We are a community in social, economic, and demographic transition, and this foundational relationship is critical for our future.
“While I could not be at council’s meeting last night, I am proud to serve with Mayor Caul and Councillor Hallikas on our First Nation relations committee and to stand with our council in this initiative.
“After decades of uncertainty and significant expense, our council is moving forward to a new chapter in our relationship with the Agency One First Nations — one based on friendship, committed to truth and reconciliation, and driven by shared goals and aspirations.
“That is what our community expects of its leaders, at all levels of government — and that is what we are working toward, together with our neighbours.”
